My Bet
People tell me it is impossible to get the world to hang a white flag. Simply impossible, they tell me. They say people are stupid. They say people are not interested. They say people simply do not care. I hear that and much more.
I have bet myself that I can do it.
This Is the World I Want to Wake Up In
Imagine that, in the end, we all manage to hang a white flag after all. Imagine a world where there are no more wars, where we disarm for good and people no longer die unnecessarily – neither where weapons are made nor where they are used.
Would it not be wonderful to live in such a world? This is the world I want to wake up in.
One Tree per Person
Imagine each of us planting one tree a year. Maybe even two. We focus on fruit trees. In 30 years, mangoes and many other fruits could be growing in countless places – free for everyone. No one would have to buy fruit anymore.
Purely hypothetically: if everyone planted just one tree, would that not be possible? That is what gets me up every day.
Rivers Full of Life
Imagine we clean up our rivers: no more microplastics, no harmful chemicals in the water. We make the rivers clean again, and the fish return.
Imagine everyone having enough to eat without having to work for it. Would that not be wonderful? That motivates me.
Looking to the Future with Open Eyes
Around 1800, about one billion people lived on Earth. Today, just over 200 years later, there are more than eight times as many. Imagine, purely hypothetically, that in another 200 years there were eight times as many people again.
Where would we build homes for everyone? Where would all the cars drive? Imagine there being eight times as many people in every room as there are today.
Sometimes we have to start using our eyes to see what is happening around us. Right?
Sport and Research
As an athlete, I represented Germany at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo and Paris. As an author and researcher, I am driven by a question that reaches far beyond sport: What is truly, truly our role as human beings?

For more than 20 years, I have been observing, researching and questioning. I look into our history to understand what is happening to us today. This is how THE MANIFESTO came into being. My central thesis is: Everything repeats itself. But does that mean we have to repeat the same mistakes too?

I do not ask you to believe me blindly. Think for yourself. Question me just as I question the world.
When we see a way to change something, why should we wait for someone else to begin?
My White Flag
My white flag is already flying. With The Crazy One – White Flag Movement I want to inspire people to make their desire for peace visible. The movement is starting in a country of historical significance: Germany – with an invitation to the whole world.
